RIVERVIEW THEATRE COMPANY NEWS
Feedback (posted 7/28/08)
Thanks so much for putting together this theater company.
I went to the play last night, partly to show support for the first ever "Play in the Park", hopefully there will be many more, and partly to see your group (well, and Shakespeare play!).
I was most impressed. Usually when you go to a community theater play, there is one actor who is a clinker, and I never saw that. Wonderful performance. Even though, sitting in the back, it was hard to hear, my 8 year old son enjoyed it too, getting the biggest belly laughs at the comic relief of the character Bottom, and other choice moments. I went thinking we'd be lucky to get to intermission, but we made it all the way through.
I was surprised to have never heard of your group, and really wished I could have seen the play at what must have been the quieter performance on the lake. As one who has been, let's say, more of a patron of the arts, than a actor, and seen professional plays in New York, Chicago, and community theatre all over the Chicago suburbs, I have sung in high school choral groups, and community choirs, as well as done some light stage work in high school, and some tech work in high school, as well as after graduation. I was dismayed when we moved from Schaumburg to McHenry, to see the closest thing to regular community theater was only in Woodstock. I not only wanted to attend, but perhaps get involved, or eventually, get my son involved. I know there are a couple other opportunities for kids, but not for adults. It was a wonderstroke to get the performance in the park, for advertising alone, for your troupe.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I hope to check out more plays, and perhaps get involved in the future, in between raising a family and my day gig. Congratulations.
PS I go to the weekly summer jazz concerts at the gazebo, and the sound system they have gets them over the amazing number of motorcycles and noisy cars, I know it's expensive, but your play was so good, it's a shame we in the back missed so much of it, more mics / amplification is needed. I still loved it, it was like watching a Spanish TV station, when you don't know the language, you still get something out of the music, lighting, sound, facial expression, body movement, special effects, but you know you are missing something! 8*)
Thanks.

I can’t wait for Katie to be involved with Riverview again! I have to say, you all did SUCH a wonderful job with Bugsy - we had so many compliments on the entire performance! And the kids had a GREAT time! Katie has grown so much more in her voice, stage presence, etc. due to being part of your production.
I was at the Miss McHenry pageant - your performance was AMAZING!

Comment from one of our patrons:
I want to thank you for a great production Buggy Malone. My family and I were at the Nippersink Library in Richmond and were lucky enough to see a poster on display for the final performance. We went right over to Memorial Hall to see the play. What a great time for all of us - my husband, my granddaughter, and myself. I have always loved the Memorial Building, remembering when I took my children to the library there (and the village hall along with the police dept was in the basement). I am so pleased that this historic building where people known enjoyment for years and years still gives the people of this area pleasure. The children in the play were very professional - their voices clear , their lines delivered with confidence and obviously practiced over and over. We were all pleasantly impressed with the talent of the children in our area and of the production crews, directors and all staff that must have worked very hard. I felt a love a passion for what was happening on stage and in the building. When a performer and staff enjoys their work the audience feels the intensity; you don't just view or hear the play, you feel the play. Thank you. We look forward to future plays. I am interested in learning about the Riverview Theater and my granddaughter is interested in becoming a member of the children's group. Can you tell me the path we may start to get my granddaughter involved?
Thank you for a wonderful weekend! - Patty Swedersk

New theater launches with holiday classic.
Angie Kells admits she is not afraid to take risks. She loves telling a good story, and she hopes to make a difference in her community.
All of those aspirations inspired the McHenry resident to launch the Riverview Theatre Company, McHenry's first independent theater company. After years of performing in other community theater productions in Palatine, Crystal Lake and Woodstock, Kells wanted to present shows in her own neighborhood.
“Community theater opens the door for many people,” Kells said. “I've always been a good observer, and I noticed how different groups of people can be brought together in community theater. I wanted to provide opportunities for talented actors, and I didn't want to wait any longer to do it. It seemed like McHenry was hungry for its own theater company.”
